Biography: Bugsy Siegel was an American mobster, best known for his role in the early development of the Las Vegas Strip. He was a major player in the Jewish Mob alongside his childhood friend Meyer Lansky.
Siegel was also a co-founder and leader of Murder, Inc. This organization operated as the enforcement arm for the National Crime Syndicate, and is believed to have been responsible for up to 1,000 contract killings.
While Siegel was renowned early in his career as a hitman, later he became involved in the management and financing of the first casinos in Las Vegas. He was particularly involved in the Flamingo Hotel project, which he oversaw.
His involvement in the Flamingo Hotel project is believed to have led to his death, with partners believing he had skimmed money during construction. He was shot by a sniper through the window of his girlfriend's Beverly Hills home.
